Historic Church of Évora won an Award for Urban Rehabilitation
The Church of St. Francis was awarded an IHRU prize in 2016, in the category of the “Rehabilitation of Building”.
Classified as a national monument and it is a building from 1224. Nothing is known about the initial convent because of the changes done in the late Middle Ages, later on, the historical chronicles reveal the reconstruction of the building in the early 15th century, taking the name of Church of San Francisco, as it is known today.
No interior da igreja, está localizada a célebre Capela dos Ossos, completamente forrada por milhares de ossadas humanas recolhidas dos antigos cemitérios da cidade.
Inside the Church, is located the famous Chapel of Bones (Capela dos Ossos), completely lined by thousands of human bones collected from ancient cemeteries of the city.
